Day 5 - Black Forest

We had an excellent breakfast buffet on the boat and then jumped on the bus. Just over an hour later we were at the southern edge of the Black Forest. We passed through wine vineyards and many fruit and crop fields. Interesting the Stork birds here went from a 1400 pair population down to 9 pairs. All towns provide artificial nests for the storks to help revive the population. This is a farming community and our stop was at an open museum of old farm houses. The smoke room in one house still had 500yr old sausage hanging from the ceiling. The smoke room was 15x15 feet and smelled excellent. We tried a slice of black forest cake and it was awesome. They don't use sugar and that was the difference between German and US cakes.

Once back at the boat we tried to walk across a bridge to France but it was a long walk to find the entrance to the bridge. We ended up walking to the nearby town of Briechart. Of course we had to climb to the top of the hill to check out the biggest building, St. Stephan Church. Churchgoer or not, you have to be amazed at the detail, completely and pure size of these buildings built hundreds of years ago.

Day 4 Mt. Pilatus

Took a bus to get on the cable car up to Mt Pilatus.  Took about 30 mins to get to the top. We were in the clouds for about 25 minutes and popped out on top just as we arrived at the summit. What a view!! We were in the 4 person cab with two ladies from Las Vegas of all places.

We took a cog-wheel tram down to the bottom, and that took about 45 minutes. Awesome views on the world's steepest ride down. Next stop was a small tourist city of Lucerne and a lot of tourists.
After Lucern, we were bussed to the embarkation point for our boat.  Or luggage was in our room .. whew.
We had reception drinks followed by drills, info and then dinner.
We sat at a table with 2 random couples from northern California of all places.
